James has always been interested in films and film making, so much so that in his teens, he joined a local amateur film club to learn the practical skills that he had seen applied so many times in his vast movie collection.  Since then, he has won numerous film competitions at the club, as well as national and international awards, including 3 awards for Best Filming, Best Editing and Best Production at the International Film Festival in Stoke, and Film of the Festival, Best Use of Sound, and Best Titles and Graphics at

After gaining an A grade at Turton Sixth Form while studying A-Level Media Studies, James then went on to Salford University to study TV Production, where, after three years of study, gained a 2:1 and recognition as the first ever first year student to have had a short film project broadcast on Channel M.

Mere months after graduating from Salford University, James then began work at Apple Video Facilities and has been honing and developing his craft ever since, teaching himself and subsequently other members of staff in-depth video production programs, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects, and since joining us in March 2004 James has become our senior editor, specialising in graphics, animation and special effects.

In 2008, we were approached by the East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership to produce a video aimed at getting primary school-aged children to use the railways more often, and to educate them that its not just a way of getting from A to B, but can also be a fun experience. Initially, the brief was pretty minimal, but under the direction of James, "Explore The Ribble Valley Line" eventually evolved into an award-winning project. We designed an animated character called Brian the Bull, who presented the film, and would pop up on screen throughout the video to ask the kids questions.

The video was such a success, the ELCRP came back to us at the end of 2009 with a proposal for another video, this time on a bigger scale.  The purpose of this video was to bring back Brain the Bull and demonstrate that the railways are very environmentally friendly, renewing, reusing and recycling in any way possible, centring a lot of focus on a new eco station which was to be built in Accrington. James, again, directed the video, with the result being another award-winning film.

When James got married in the summer of 2014, he and his then-fiancee decided to produce an action film to mark their arrival into the wedding breakfast, with the help of their friends and families. As you can see below, it is one of his favourite productions, and also went on to win numerous awards!
